anyone want to share some things that the watchtower has gotten busted for that even they can't weasle their way out of?

i was thinking about copyrighted images, illegal activity, etc... .

here are a few images they used that they "stole" from others, but claimed as their own.

Here are a few images they used that they "stole" from others, but claimed as their own. Of course, I don't know which were actually stock images or what. But it's interesting to see.

The first illustration is from The Bible Story by Arthur S. Maxwell (Review and Herald Publishing Association 1955) Volume 1, Page 52

The second one is from My Book of Bible Stories (Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. 1978) Story number 3.

Jason BeDuhn regarding Revelation 7 and the Great Crowd

a while ago i sent an e-mail to jason beduhn, that the society is quite fond of.

they like to quote him in publications.

so when i started researching the great crowd and the accuracy of the earthly hope doctrine i thought i might write him and ask him what the exact meaning of "before the throne" (revelation 7:9) and "temple" (7:15) is.

On this same line of thought, there are many JW apologists on yahoo answers. I discovered yesterday that many are still misusing debunked quotes to garner favor to the NWT. I even found one that was still quoting Bruce Metzger, the guy that was livid at the society for taking him out of context. They are still quoting him saying: " Dr. Bruce M. Metzger, in reference to the New World Translation of the Greek Scriptures, stated that "on the whole, one gains a tolerably good impression of the scholarly equipment of the translators."*

Me: Right. So other religions make false predictions, it proves Jehovah is not using them. We make false predictions, it means we're overzealous, but humble. Other religions join UN, they're having sex with the wild beast, touching the unclean thing. We join the UN, for a library card, and it's ok. Additionally, if I personally got a card to the YMCA, no reason is nobe enough, I'd be disfellowshipped for apostacy. Other religions hide pedophilia. We keep in quiet to not profane Jehovah's name. Other religions install ATM's, we print it in our mags to show how disgusting they are. We install debit card machines a year later, "keeping up with technology". Other religions change doctrine, it's because they follow man's opinion (for reference, please see April 22, 1970 Awake! Changes That Disturb People). We change doctrine because Jehovah is leading us. And he was leading us to the wrong doctrine in the first place? MAN, WE ARE SOME HYPOCRITES!!!!

Wow...that was the single best argument I've heard in years. WELL DONE!!!

it is 3am here and i just finished reading your last post and even though i have to be up at 6am tomorrow morning (technically later), i felt obligated to login to jwn and write to you.

i thought about saying many things.

Recovery, I think you respect me enough to tell you a few things. I was at Bethel, and I can talk from experience. I can tell you a few stories that I know to be fact that happened at bethel. Yes, there have been numerous suicides that occured at Bethel. I know from first hand information. I also can, if you so desire, find a talk by Dan Sydlik where he talks about a particular suicide that occured at bethel. It may take me a while to find it, but it's there. There were numerous suicides there. The pressure gets too much and people do those things sometimes. I'm not bashing bethel when I say that the pressure there with the number of rules and regulations and numerous responsibilities gets extreme.

About rape, I know I've heard stories, but I don't have any first hand info about that. However, there was quite a scandal that happened with some of the housekeepers at bethel. Some of them were called "housekeeper whores" because of some situations that they were getting into that involved wife swapping and sex with some of the single guys there. This is what led to the rule at bethel that a man and a woman (unless it was your wife) could not be alone together unless the front door to your apartment/house/room was open wide. You could be kicked out if your door was shut.

Anyone that has been to bethel knows about numerous stories of this type. No one hid those things at bethel because they were out in the open. We were told in entrance school that we should not talk about anything that has happened at bethel in regards to these things to anyone in the congregation. So largely it was kept secret. But many bad things DO happen at bethel.

I'm saying this so you can know that everything spoken of is not a lie. It's on me and my conscience to tell you this, and I'm telling you that they are not false accusations. Homosexuality was huge at bethel as well. Brother Couch was fond of saying (and this I heard PERSONALLY WHILE AT BETHEL), "Many brothers are turning their lusts on each other. You new boys need to stop. First you start wrestling around in your underwear...then WHAM BAM you're a homo!" This isn't a lie. It's absolutely 100% true.

I only bring this up, not to bash the organization, but to tell you that everything you hear that happens and has happened in the organization is not necessarily a lie. You WANT it to be a lie, especially things like Candice Conti, but WANTING it to be lie doesn't make it a lie.

Jwfacts-- More Lies But This Time About The Great Crowd

jwfacts has an article that explains why the great crowd must be in heaven.

i am also aware that many of these are the same arguments that stemmed from the 'awakenings at bethel' so my statements are not simply attacks of jwfact's character (since these arguments are probably not original) but rather his copy and paste of what others have said instead of verifying it as 'fact' for himself.. so here are jwfacts arguments:.

1. he shows that russell and rutherford (at some point) believed that the great crowd were in heaven.. 2. each term that describes the great crowd of revelation 7 is else used to described the anointed by the wt.

I don't know. I don't think he should be deleted because he still holds to Watchtower teaching. I think his presence here is important to him and others for various reasons. Why can't he have his opinion too? Even if it's different from our own and one that we have chosen to reject?

I don't get the same feeling from Recovery as I have from other JW apologists that have been here. Just my personal take on it. Sometimes it's important to get all the facts on the table. Answer his questions from the Bible. And show that the Watchtower is wrong on many of these issues. It's a good record for people to look through in the future.

I don't see Recovery as making any sort of threat against anyone that would ban him from this site. Yeah, I don't like the way he talks sometimes as far as sarcasm and veiled insults. But many of us do that at times on this site. It's something I think Recovery is working on and I don't think he should just be kicked off for being passionate about what he believes.

Just my two cents.

It is not my viewpoint that the WT is 100% correct on everything and that everything that is in opposition to the WT must be false and is of no validation.

That's great to hear! Honestly. If you come to these conclusions based on your own study of the Bible, then that's awesome. Truly.

I do not think that is a fair assessment of who I am, how I think, or how I act. Anymore than it is fair for me to call all apostates liars, mentally diseased, and so forth because that is not the case for many ex JW's.

Again, really awesome to hear you say that. Makes me respect you a bit more. Good job!
